From Childhood Obsession to Track: The Evolution of an S2000 Enthusiast
For some, the love for cars begins before they can even walk. This enthusiast’s journey into the world of automobiles started with an early obsession with Hot Wheels and a fascination with engine sounds. Influenced by iconic media from the early 2000s—like Fast and Furious, Need for Speed, Forza, Gran Turismo, Speed Network, and Initial D—it was nearly impossible for a young mind to think cars were anything but badass.
The decision to buy an S2000 was somewhat impulsive, sparked during a conversation with a friend named Hiro at the Canyon Lake Vista one night. However, the choice was far from unfounded. The S2000 is renowned for its exceptional platform, featuring a low center of gravity, double wishbone suspension, mid-engine design, factory limited-slip differential (LSD), and rear-wheel drive (RWD). These attributes make it an ideal candidate for transforming into a race car.
The plans for the S2000 are extensive and continually evolving. Key items on the list include a complete overhaul of the current aero package, transitioning to the first-generation K platform, and reducing unsprung weight. This approach aims to enhance the car's performance on the track and optimize every aspect of its handling and speed.
Next season's goals are focused and ambitious: continue shaving off lap times and prioritize performance in the local UMS time attack series. The objective is not just to compete but to excel by continuously refining both the car and driving skills.
Time attack offers a unique blend of community spirit, creativity, and high-stakes competition. It provides an environment where drivers can push their vehicles to the limit while enjoying the camaraderie and innovative spirit of the community. The combination of maximum driving effort and vehicle performance makes time attack a thrilling and rewarding pursuit.
Among the numerous modifications, the Öhlins DFV coilovers stand out as the favorite. These adjustable coilovers are praised for their performance and affordability, making them one of the best options for the S2000 within a budget of under $3,000. Despite plans to upgrade to MCS in the near future, the Öhlins DFV’s have significantly enhanced the car's handling and driving experience.
